here it is - empty and with out the window installed... looong and skinny but bigger than it looks in the photos and much larger than where Ive been painting and SO MUCH MORE LIGHT - its north light!!

Workshop

here are 2 of the demos Carol Marine did at the workshop - so great to get back to basics and be a student again - for 3 days straight. Carol - is a terrific instructor - wise beyond her years! Great bunch of artists in the group too!! I will post links to some of them soon.

Below are some of my boards - some of them are 10 min studies.. I'm super comfortable painting my way around the human form but put an apple in front of me!! eeeek - scary!!
Soooo they were my focus during this workshop - .... Carol is THE Queen of painting apples so thought I'ld learn from the best

gosh its been a while since Ive made a post. Once I get into my new studio - which isnt quite ready yet - the posts will be frequent again.....cant wait!!



in the mean time .... I'm taking a workshop with fellow Daily Painter Carol Marine and my kindergarten teaching has started up again!

6x6" oil - had a marathon painting session at the beach - which is the best for several reasons, my favorite being seeing what develops towards the end.

-after painting a bunch of 'serious' landscapes, I started painting a few close up people studies. quick, fun and loose, not over thinking - in fact barely thinking about painting.

I love getting to that place.

sat by myself at the beach last week and painted...nice breeze, gorgeous out... and today got caught in a summer shower while walking the dog.... makes me smile

With the bigger paintings, I'm experimenting with thick and thin paint - its very freeing.

except my little dog likes to sleep directly under the easel and with the dripping happening here, well lets just say he got a bath in the sink later

This beach girl was painted from life (plein air) - MUCH harder than working from photos - but the spontaneity and energy cant be beat.

Back to the painting grind again - at last and it feels great. LIFE sure does get in the way sometimes :) we adopted a new little dog from the shelter - a 2 yr old lhasa apso that we all just love... Baxter - here he is with Bode - who looks thrilled dont you think?

Saba - a beautiful name for a beautiful girl. It means Cool Morning Breeze in Arabic. She was the model last night at our monday night portrait session - wish I had a photo of her too so you could see the likeness...what fun those eyes were to paint! but as for the spot I love? it would have to be her nose - loving that lighter brushstroke inbetween her eyes -yum

Cape Summer

6x6" oil. Treasure. Today was busy with getting our backyard pond cleaned out and good to go for the season...around our pond are many of my boys 'treasures' found over the years.... they make me smile

6x6" oil - geez, talk about a painting slump.... its been a few weeks of starts and stops, wipe outs and confusion on which direction to take - happens to the best of us I suppose... strange - havent felt like painting but started running again, became a vegetarian and have the overwhelming urge to get another dog!! what is THAT about??!! must be spring fever :)

So back in the comfort zone but ok with it. Happy here and spent the entire day painting which is always a good thing.

Painting big - alot bigger - is where I'm heading but will still keep at these little ones to help work things out - stay tuned for more moms at the beach - inspired (finally)by mothers day

Mark Taber - portrait series

18x24" oil. back from my painting break - sometimes you just need to do other things to recharge the creative juices.

But nothing could be better for getting my painting groove back than hanging with a bunch of RISD alumni for a portrait session - which is what I did last night- and a GREAT model too.

Seriously this guy was FUN to paint. His name is Mark Taber and he is a local pianist here in RI - we were treated to a bit of his talent while setting up. Thank you Mark.
