here is a little preview of what is to come ---

Cupcake (A), pink, cupcake painting,Debbie Miller

 6x6" oil on canvas.
cupcakes, cupcakes,cupcakes and more cupcakes.
Getting a big batch of cupcakes ready to go up to Boston.
First, I spent Saturday tracking down some interesting models :).  Just wasn't in the mood to paint the grocery store cupcakes, for this amount of paintings I needed to switch things up and get some fresh
props.
after that massive task - (eh hem, East Bay - we could really use a gourmet cupcake shop!)
I primed 16 small canvases and a bunch of panels.  THEN, I jammed.  Knocked out a whole bunch!!
  Talk about a Sugar Rush!!!
Back at it tomorrow.  Stay tuned, I'll share a few of them and let you know where they are going too.

It's all about the cupcakes, cupcake paintings, debbie miller

For the next few days, it really is.  No Joke.
I've got a bagillion to paint.    You know that pre-holiday cookie baking frenzie everyone seems to do at least once in their life? - usually before you turn 40 and you realize that you really DON'T have to make 12 kinds of cookies.  Yeh,THAT is what it will be like around the ol' studio for the next few days.
It's cool.  No worries.  I got this.

Ooodles and oodles of paintings of cupcakes are coming

So in the interest of not getting a brain cramp trying to come up with titles for them all, they are getting numbers.

and I'll be experiemnting with different surfaces.  this one is on canvas.  a nice deep edged canvas.

I hate it.   Painting on canvas is such a drag.  BUT I'm going to give it a shot for a few more cupcakes.

Follow the Leader - daily painting, cupcakes

6x6 oil. I just listened to the same song over and over and over on my ipod without even noticing until it was playing for over an hour! Deep in thought while painting!

What was I thinking of about you ask?

Well the title popped into my head first.

- then it went off into imagining the cupcakes were like middleschool girls following the alpha girl - she's the one in pink - and then they all go home and bug their mothers for pink frosting too with green sprinkles. They simply MUST have these things.... because the white frosting/red sprinkle look is SO last year.... :)

Creamsicle - daily painting,cupcakes,floral

6x6" oil on panel. Often while painting a title or word will pop into my head and stay there. With this one - it is orange creamsicle - which are not my cup of tea- but the colors are. Last weekend I picked up this little bouquet at Trader Joes (for peanuts!) to brighten up the studio a bit. Its working.

Below is the latest from the open portrait group. I Love this group and painting from the model live so much that I would like to start my own group at my little studio -(on a different night of course!!) If you are an interested local - contact me!

Go over to my About Face blog to see more.

Stand out in the crowd - daily painting, cupcakes

6x6" oil -

today - all excited to start my first week in the studio with Internet, - got here and NOPE - no Internet. faulty router. So - while waiting for the cable guy to show, these little guys got their chance to be painted. so cute.

tomorrow is Feb 1 - can you believe it?? The looongest shortest month if you you live in an area that has a snowy winter -

to GET thru it in one piece - I like to have a creative project - something to challenge me and inspire me.....a few years ago some like minded folk and I started a face book group called "do what you love, February" and this year we're at it again.

Ideally I'd love everyone to post onto our flickr group that Ive set up for all of us to share what were doing!

So far - everyone seems a little flickr timid :( It easy and fun! don't be shy!!

This is an invite for any of you who would like to join in! - there is a link button to the group over there in the left column or click HERE !

BTW - I'm going to paint cupcakes everyday....JUST KIDDING....actually haven't decided yet - might be a portrait a day again - and I'm going vegan for the month just for fun :)

The Lineup - daily painting,cupcakes

6x6" oil on panel-

There are a million things to paint but painting cupcakes never disappoints. Swirling the oil paint on is JUST like swirling frosting on a cake. Plus they are so dang cute and perfect for these small format paintings. There is a little lineup of them in my studio ready to go - just right to kick of the sweet month of February.

If youve got a minute watch this video of the master pastry painter Wayne Thiebaud.

His paintings have always been favorites and remind me of the bakeries in the North End of Boston that my parents used to take us to as kids. - like this one

He doesnt always paint pastry - sometimes he paints women at the beach - a man after my own heart.

Ladies Night - daily cupcake painting by Debbie Miller

6x6" oil - a treat from saturday night at my studio with girlfriends ---I am completely obsessed with my larger works - these little ones have truly become my warmups before diving into the big ones.
It really is a great way to loosen up and get 'ready'

Let's Celebrate! -daily painting,still life,cupcakes

6x6" oil
Let's celebrate my new studio with some cupcakes, shall we?

here it is - empty and with out the window installed... looong and skinny but bigger than it looks in the photos and much larger than where Ive been painting and SO MUCH MORE LIGHT - its north light!!
