The cupcakes came about a few years ago when i used to paint one as a warm-up before getting down to some commissions or other work. Lately, repainting older favorite paintings has been my go-to warm up.
This is one of those.
(in person the sand is much more butterscotch-y. I'm haveing trouble capturing that color with my camera today)
This week, since its so busy - for me and you - I've decided to post some of my little paintings that Ive posted before but are still kicking around the studio - but they are perfect little gifts!! Totally dry and ready to be shipped asap.
free shipping too PLUS I can gift wrap AND Ive got some small easels perfect for propping the painting on for display.
6x6 " oil on cradeled panel.
black sides - ready to hang.
this time I painted in much the same way as I approach a portrait. - used a burnt sienna ground, then using a fairly big brush sketched out the composition, adding a little umber to the shadows/darks and wiping the ground away where I want the lightest lights to be.
happy with the feel of this one
sold. Fathers Day is right around the corner - why not a little beach painting for the special Dad in your life? send me an email if you want to commisssion a painting
Spent the first real spring-like afternoon doing some plein air painting at the beach - at Warrens Pt. in Little Compton, RI.
My plan was to do studies of the waves and rocks - and I did do that but you know I cant resist painting the people!
This is THE best way to improve your powers of observation and to learn to paint faster! Really, you are painting your memory of the scene - a gesture of the person. Its challenging, difficult and wicked fun ;)
8x8" oil This is a little study done for the larger version which is hanging (but available to purchase) at the Sunnyside Restaurant. I've had alot of interest in it lately so I thought I'ld post the study too. sold.
6x6" oil on panel striped towel my fave from the week. This one may have to be painted larger too, maybe I'll get to it over the weekend. Hope yours is a good one - see you monday
6x6" oil on panel Don't you love babies at the beach? Or anywhere really - My family is anxiously awaiting the birth of a new nephew/cousin - anytime now!
My brother and sister in law are expecting their second child - a boy - very soon. I am sure Dave will have him on a surf board by June :)
8x8" oil on canvas - $140.00. Ive got a new scanner :). Can't scan the fresh ones but this one is fully dry. Hoping to get the colors right - and they are close. Delicious green/gray/pale blue in person
6x6" In the soup - the surfer term for that frothy area after a wave breaks that you have to get through to get out to the waves. Always reminds me of the restaurant term 'in the weeds' ...in the thick of it, swamped, overwhelmed..... moms home with kids all this vacation week - this is you! In the soup - weeded :)
5x7 oil on panel School Vacation Week - lets go to the beach! Well, my family isnt going somewhere warm but my blog is! Got a new scanner (epson 4490) so for the next week I'll be posting some little beach scenes that are still here in the studio. Happy Vacation
6x6 oil on panel - ignoring the N.E. winter weather forcast and painting the beach again. Looking at those 3 friends, one of my favorite books as a kid popped into my head
These 3 horses meet up with an artist guy and dress up like princesses and go into town. Its a little odd :) In the end a trio of princesses show up and adopt them. Those vintage Dandelion Press books were the best.
