Foggy - daily painting, beach scene

8x10 oil on wood panel $160
my goal for the next month is to paint (and post) everyday! Since February is the month for love, might as well do what I love AND paint what I love. So #1 is Foggy, cause there is nothing I love more than a foggy day at the beach and these little beach scenes are soooo much fun to paint.

A Presidential Party - daily painting,cupcake

6x6" oil on gessobord
couldn't resist these cupcakes at the market yesterday. Got me thinking how many red white and blue cupcakes are being made for presidential parties this week.
Used a limited palette for this and painted on a bright red ground, specifically trying to be loose and impressionistic with my brush strokes- staying away from tight and fussy.

Sweety - daily painting,cupcakes

8x8" oil on supported panel

Another little sweety. whenever the mood strikes to paint a still life a la prima, most of the time these little cupcakes shout out to be painted. The nice thing - or gross thing - is that they hang around the studio for months! ewe.
There is one spot in a painting that I and I think all artists just seems to fall in love with. As much as laying on thick paint like frosting FOR the frosting is the funnest part...I love that little sprinkle on the left

Note to Self

today is self portrait day over at Daily Painters. A challenge for sure. I havent tackled a self portrait is 20 years!!! yikes. As a student at RISD way back when, I took a portrait class my senior year and it was probably my favorite class. For a semester I had to do 5 portraits a week and bring them in for crit. Painted friends on occasion but mostly it was just me. Only a few survived over the years but everything I learned came right back. Found myself setting up my palette with the same colors and in the same order, adjusting the light and the mirror in the same familar way...everything the same except of course the image in the mirror! hmmmm, it was alot more fun back then but still such a great 'assignment' for any artist. Try One! I might make it a yearly event from now on. :)
