Well the official end of summer weekend is upon us.  A whole summer went by and for the first time in a looooong time I didnt put a toe in Cape Cod sand.  RI sand - yes, NH lake sand -yes but no Cape Cod. 

Perhaps a fall trip for some plein air painting is needed :)

This is a little study for some larger paintings inspired by this gorgeous coast.

This beach girl was painted from life (plein air) - MUCH harder than working from photos - but the spontaneity and energy cant be beat.

busy working on my big towel series and building a pond in the backyard....also inspired by my visit to the Outer Cape and the gorgeous garden of the lovely Claudia that we stumbled upon......dont you just love creative inspiration!!

While the rest of our gang went to the free Shakespeare performance at Wellfleet harbor - I snuck across the street, sat on the beach and did this little one inbetween rain showers....

Sortof on vacation this week...due to the computer cord and getting into the routine of summer with boys out of school, ....so not really vacation but a break from painting.


Found this photo while cleaning today. Its my favorite of my sister and I (she's on the right) and exactly the kind of photo I like to paint from - it captures a moment in time. So much more interesting than if the two of us had been grinning at the camera...
Not sure which beach we're at but I think its
at the Cape Cod Natural History Museum. Which is one of my favorite places to go on the Cape still. If you find yourself on the Cape this summer and especially if youve got kids its a must see.

Ive been working on a small series of 'bigger' beach scenes - less detailed, more suggesting, lots of paint. they are very fun and possibly leading me in a new direction.
