Snowy Owl #1 - 30/30 challenge, Debbie Miller

6"x6" oil on wood panel
Happy New Year Everyone!

Jumping right into things here.  The goals are set - complete with deadlines - because without a deadline, goals just float around in the abyss mocking me with their elusiveness.   Must. Make. Deadlines.

Helping me out with the goals of "regular studio hours", "painting ALOT if not daily" "exploring ideas that have been stewing"  ...I decided to join up with Leslie Saeta and tackle 30 paintings in 30 days.  No Biggie, right? I've done it before - just not lately.

Subject matter - birds.  The bird thing has been brewing for a while - more on this later - So this seems like a good time to explore.  These 30/30 paintings will be little and available through me - not my usual gallery stuff, although don't worry I'll be posting those here too.  I'm starting off with oils but other media will be popping up too.

Swimmers 3 - Debbie Miller oil painting

30x30 more swimmers - I just can't get enough.  Really today is a very "office-y"  kind of day. *yawn*  Lot's of computer work.  During breaks, I'm working on a couple of paintings.

I don't know, maybe its the paint fumes, maybe it's the long hours in front of the computer but it struck me as funny to see this strategically placed window ...

My studio computer is blocking access to my blog - no idea why -
I'm working on trying to figure it out, in the mean time, I'll post from my home laptop - with some of the daily paintings I've got stored there, like this one.

fyi - I'm gearing up for a plein air series/challenge, you know how I love a challenge - so stay tuned

What did you do last weekend?

 6x6 oil on panel.

Who doesn't love a 3 day weekend in October?  and bonus beach weather too!
Did you get some projects done?  Make something or go apple picking?  Or knit something like this woman did?

I actually spent 3 FULL days in my studio. - Its been a bit over a year since I got this space.  - and I still have to pinch myself and remember that its real.

Ya know what else is over a year old?
These cupcakes.
Yup thats right.  Thats why I love them as props...they are like hard little cupcake sculptures.

BTW - my studio will be open during the Warren Walkabout - Sun. Oct. 23, 12-5.
Come by and say Hi.  - 30 Cutler St. suite 210
I promise to have fresh cupcakes.

Little Pitcher - daily painting, debbie miller

8x8 oil on panel - another very traditional still life - and here is why:
1. Ive been completely uninspired lately, not knowing what to paint and how.  Empty canvas syndrome, self doubt, why bother...the works.
----just plain Burnt Out.
2.  My son asked me to paint this.

-  I had my travel paints still in the car after going to Open Portrait Painting.  (which I love)
Seeing last weeks portrait sitting on the mantel drying, my son asked "How do you do that? Show me" - and well...he is not one to take no for an answer so I agreed.
 - BUT we were the only ones home with noone to paint...so we improvised with the pitcher of flowers.

Got me thinking that it might be interesting to post my process sometime OR make a video - stay tuned!

Got a Goal for the Summer?

6x6" oil on canvas.  A Little Beachy.
Ah Summer... hello.
What are you doing this summer with your art?
taking a workshop? doing a few outdoor art shows? plein air painting?
ALL or NONE of the above?
Its Ok - you can kick back and take a break if you want - we won't judge.

- I've been neglecting my daily painting habit - so its time to kick that back up into high gear.  along with the beachy stuff, I want to practice painting flowers - so you'll be seeing some of those soon
- Also starting an open painting group in my studio - which is something Ive always wanted to do
