Winter Walk - daily painting, Postcards From Rhode Island

5x7 oil on gessobord panel. Postcard from RI. Ive got some 5x7 boards prepared and have never used them because I love the square format so much better. These remind me of postcards so I decided to use them for some plein air quickies around my little state. Starting with Second Beach in Middletown looking back towards St Georges School

nfdp - painted today but didnt get a chance to photograph. didnt want to miss posting though since I'm 20 for 20 so far this month!! so back at it tomorrow. happy weekend all

N-1 - daily painting

nfs- Nick. Rockband again, but this guy's an actual teen, so although he let me paint him, he's not really a fan of the experience so I tried to be discrete and quick! I got a " mmmm" when I showed him the result....a glowing review- btw :)

H-1 daily painting

nfs. Harrison. Whoever decided winter vacation was a good idea was clearly NOT an artist/mom of 3 boys who likes to paint quietly to her own music...........

T-2 -daily painting, the T series

NFS - more from the teddy series. Ive discovered if you want to paint tweens its best to catch them in their natural habitat ...playing wii rockband

The Watch - daily painting, beach scene

6x6" oil on canvas. The Watch. Do you know this woman? Well If you're a Mom whose been to the beach with kids, then you know her -'cause she's YOU! Always watching, always checking and double checking, doing a head count. Even when sitting with the latest People magazine, one eye is always on the water. Moms at the Beach are one of my favorite subjects.
12x12 oil on masonite panel $300

trying to stick to my vow to paint/post everyday - painted but didnt get time to photograph it until it was too dark! so heres another look at an old fave. .... so in the mood for flowers right now too

Winter Beach -daily painting, beach scene, plein air

10x10" oil on supported wood panel. $160 Barrington Beach in Winter. dropped boys off at school and headed to the beach for a plein air this morning. such a nice way to start the day.
I photograph my paintings outside and because of all the snow I'm gettiing alot of glare and am having trouble getting a good image. this needs to be tweeked but I'm busy working on a little something for my collectors....stay tuned :)

Towards Westport -daily painting, plein air, beach scene

8x10 oil on masonite panel $160

worlds worst photo. I'll fix it tomorrow, technical difficulties today.

****edit -switched photo but still doesnt show the true lushness

Painted this yesterday at Goosewing Beach in Little Compton RI looking towards Westport, Mass. Favorite thing to do: plein air at the beach with my dog. He looked at me with an expression like "seriously, we're painting today? my drool is freezing. Ok, cool, I'll go roll in something smelly"

Foggy - daily painting, beach scene

8x10 oil on wood panel $160
my goal for the next month is to paint (and post) everyday! Since February is the month for love, might as well do what I love AND paint what I love. So #1 is Foggy, cause there is nothing I love more than a foggy day at the beach and these little beach scenes are soooo much fun to paint.

A Presidential Party - daily painting,cupcake

6x6" oil on gessobord
couldn't resist these cupcakes at the market yesterday. Got me thinking how many red white and blue cupcakes are being made for presidential parties this week.
Used a limited palette for this and painted on a bright red ground, specifically trying to be loose and impressionistic with my brush strokes- staying away from tight and fussy.

Sweety - daily painting,cupcakes

8x8" oil on supported panel

Another little sweety. whenever the mood strikes to paint a still life a la prima, most of the time these little cupcakes shout out to be painted. The nice thing - or gross thing - is that they hang around the studio for months! ewe.
There is one spot in a painting that I and I think all artists just seems to fall in love with. As much as laying on thick paint like frosting FOR the frosting is the funnest part...I love that little sprinkle on the left

Note to Self

today is self portrait day over at Daily Painters. A challenge for sure. I havent tackled a self portrait is 20 years!!! yikes. As a student at RISD way back when, I took a portrait class my senior year and it was probably my favorite class. For a semester I had to do 5 portraits a week and bring them in for crit. Painted friends on occasion but mostly it was just me. Only a few survived over the years but everything I learned came right back. Found myself setting up my palette with the same colors and in the same order, adjusting the light and the mirror in the same familar way...everything the same except of course the image in the mirror! hmmmm, it was alot more fun back then but still such a great 'assignment' for any artist. Try One! I might make it a yearly event from now on. :)

****pssst****
