Giving it a whirl -again - Debbie Miller

"Twirl" 30x30 oil on panel $2700

Hello.   This is my twirl girl.  Remember that?  Just twirling around for the fun of it.  You got dizzy and laughed out loud. I don't know about you but I could use some more twirling for the fun of it in my life.

So anyhoo - I feel like blogging again - not just the popping in every now and then kind but making friends with my blog and the whole process of "blogging" again - It's alot, this posting paintings - all the steps it takes to get an image on the screen - not to mention the ACTUAL painting process!
It's also in a way relaxing and focuses me to the task at hand.  I've been hanging out with my friend Leigh over at allcreativelike.com and some other rockin creatives- we're getting our money mojo on and through the process of the class, I've realized that I miss my blog.

Hello blog - giving it a whirl again...and maybe a twirl too, you know- for fun.

nfs Sometimes you just have to do what you love - what speaks to you, what moves you - actually when it comes to painting it should be what you do all the time - it is easy to get off track, to worry about what everyone thinks, to try and please everyone.
This has been the monster I've been fighting for a while now.
Until now, until I got back in the studio and just painted - for ME, for the love of painting, for the escape, for the meditation, for THE FUN OF IT.
TAH_DAH!  painting is fun again and I've got a secret I'll share with you soon about this painting and some of her friends.  stay tuned

Fire and Ice - figurative painting by debbie miller

All I can think of when I look at this is 'fire and ice' - hence the name. Love her fiery hair with that blue and white blouse. Hello, complimentary colors :)

This was a little quickie done after the longer portrait done at Monday nights open portrait painting session. click HERE to see the portrait I did first - which I LOVE.

6x6 oil on panel By Now I am sure my regular collectors and followers think Ive gone completely mad. I know what they are saying - "Where are those little beach scenes we've come to know and love? Where is the representational work - What are those lines? and my Gosh, what is happening to the skin tones!?" There's no explaining it. It's just happening. The other stuff is not totally gone - if you ask, I'd be happy to paint one for you. Its just that right now THESE are rocking my world. I can't seem to stop

Don't you love babies at the beach? Or anywhere really -
My family is anxiously awaiting the birth of a new nephew/cousin - anytime now!

My brother and sister in law are expecting their second child - a boy - very soon. I am sure Dave will have him on a surf board by June :)

These are all about the gesture of the figure and the layers and interesting things going on in the negative space.
Sort of a painting on top of another painting with the under painting showing through.

This one I am going to paint again large - really feeling the composition and energy - of course the colors won't be the same but that is half the fun!

The yellow tones in this just won't photograph today.
I'm going mad trying to adjust...and on top of that its snowing.
Yup, that's right - snow - on our first full day of spring. rats.

Anyway - these next few paintings are a bit different from the older paintings. Taking my large scale process and shrinking it down to the itty bitty size.
When you paint a lot - things happen.
You develop and grow and change.
That's why painting is so fun!

Are You Coming? I'm "Leaving it All Behind"

24x24 oil on panel. "Leaving It All Behind"
OK - not Leaving ALL of it behind just some of it. The extra baggage.
You know the stuff, you've got it too.
--These past few weeks have been filled with long hours on the business side of art - actually all the computer time, doing research, the paperwork, workshops etc. is all PART of my art. One exists because of the other. They are a team.
--A lot of time has been spent thinking about what to do next, where to take my art, what avenues are worth pursuing ?
--This is where that old crappy baggage sneaks back in - the self doubt monster questioning my every move. I hate her.

--SO-- Ive decided to leave her behind and jump in with both feet and really go for it.
-- You coming?
