Red Bucket - 1. Debbie Miller daily painting, beach scene

6x6" oil on panel $100

Oh Hello.  Remember me?
So, back in the studio with regular hours - hooray!!  It is all about time in the studio - my paintings are just not going to paint themselves no matter how I try.

There is a little stack of panels with black gesso just hanging around so this week that is the go-to surface.
The subject - people on the beach - of course.
BUT Ive got the itch to paint bigger more abstract paintings - its really all I want to paint right now and I am even thinking about using acrylics *gasp!*  I know?  crazy talk right??

Which brings me back to the stash of little black panels - these I will paint a quick little painting to play with composition and to get a feel for the image - a sketch with paint. Not quite as realistic as I used to paint but not all crazy like the paintings in my head.
They will be up for sale through my daily painters page (or email me) and then I'll post the bigger paintings that the little ones inspire.  Fun right?

So here is little painting #1 - and fair warning I've got a thing for buckets

Beach Walker, figurative oil painting, beach scene,Debbie Miller

6x6" oil on panel

These are all about the gesture of the figure and the layers and interesting things going on in the negative space.
Sort of a painting on top of another painting with the under painting showing through.

This one I am going to paint again large - really feeling the composition and energy - of course the colors won't be the same but that is half the fun!

Furlough #1 - the chair - beach scenes,contemporary art

20x20" oil on canvas --- Furlough series - a departure, a vacation, breathing space -- painting the way I've been thinking about for a while now....still fascinated by people at the beach as a subject but now there are other things at play. Layers for one. Getting away from realism is another.
So take a little vaca with me, lets see where it goes

Skim - beach scene, contemporary

20x20" oil on canvas -- the one that started it all - this new series - -this thing that is consuming my thoughts and keeping me up at night :) ..... best seen in person and guess what you can!
soon i'll host an open studio to celebrate my new space but until then you can stop by Oct 17. I'm in the 30 Cutler St. mill building

work in progress -nfs -yet

this is a work in progress - Ive been a little crazed these past couple weeks. Lots going on. Working on commissions and also a new series - more of these bubble/encaustics. waaay more contemporary and bigger than my usual. totally jazzed about them though and cant get enough.
Above is the start of one - the oil painting part. actually ive added more circles, orange and drippy paint to this after i snapped the photo. Next comes the wax. and the collage and layers - ooooh the possibilities are endless!! Ive got 6 or 7 of these at different stages and sizes and some with fish or just shapes.
*below is a page from my sketchbook - this is how I 'think'

Happy First Day of Spring!!!!!!!
