Pear Press

6x6" oil on masonite
this setup reminded me of a press conference, all the reporters crowding around the 'star'
I've given myself a little assaignment to paint some still lifes, specifically pears. just cause I like them and want to get better at painting them.

Following Change

When I painted this the David Bowie song "Changes" was on and its been stuck in my head ever since. "ch ch ch ch changes, turn and face the strange...." Its so perfect for this time of year with all the leaves and weird Halloween stuff.
I forgot how fun these 'jar' paintings are to paint. I did 4!! And I like to paint them 'backwards'. meaning ; I paint the background first, its all about the negative space between the sticks and leaves. then I do the rest saving the white highlights for last.

Bounty

In spite of having a million things to do today to get ready for the RISD sale tomorrow, I decided that these HAD to be painted. Zinnias. Love them. I bought them to put on my table tomorrow and painted them quickly with 1 flat brush and actually I like the result. fun.
Happy Long Weekend!

Summer Days SOLD

Daylilies. My all time favorite perennial. Not necessarily this common variety, but even these are special. So hardy, so reliable and so summery. Whats not to love.

**** Also today I joined the Donovan Gallery in Tiverton, Rhode Island. **** I have passed this gallery on my way to the beach for years and always wanted to have my paintings there. Now I am happy to say, I have that honor and I think it will be a good fit. So If you are in the Tiverton 4Corners area please go in and check them out!

Fresh Start

Started my day by finding out I was the featured artist on the site www.emptyeasel.com. Check it out. Besides my review, theres lots of good stuff to read about artists and art.
The great thing about daily painting is how you learn and break through blocks. I hated painting flowers a couple months ago, I was even Afraid to paint them. Now I love it and cant get enough of them. I went to the nursery the other day and bought flowers specifically to paint! These aren't them, these came from a shrub in my backyard. Mock Orange? Not sure, but I have always loved them.

Sunnyside Up

bright and cheery for the unofficial start of summer. I've discovered that these little flower paintings are very fun to paint. BUT I'm really itching to do more people paintings, next week after the kids are back in school and the house guests are gone I'll be back at it. have a good holiday.

Window Dog

I have jars of flowers all over the place, this one was in my kitchen window for a while. These dogwood branches have been fantastic to paint and they lasted a long time. It was all about the negative space on this, I painted those first. Now if only I could get that "Doggie in the Window" song out of my head

Downward Dog

this is my 51 st post! I have learned so much since starting this that I couldnt even begin to list them all. For starters I actually DO like to paint flowers. I really am a 'fresh flowers in a jar' kinda girl rather than an 'arrangement' type of person. Paint what you know and it works. To me this painting works.
