Studio Update

Free Bird - 20x20 oil $1,200

-My One Kings Lane sale is still happening and this painting is offered but if you are interested in the original, that is offered directly through me.
- I delivered 10 paintings to Eisenhauer Gallery on Marthas Vineyard last weekend.  I love this gallery in Edgartown.  Planning a trip to the island this summer?, be sure to stop by!
here they go - ready to board the ferry.

Painting a large commission, some more cupcakes, and wrapping up another year of teaching K art.
AND on top of that the garden beckons, and it is my Birthday Month SO...

This week I am taking the blogging pressure off - I try to blog M-F but this week I need to put all my energy into the commission so I'm taking the week off.  I'm sure I will pop in though and share something and I'll share the commission painting when it's done too.

Have a good week everyone!!

One King's Lane Sale!!!!

So pleased to announce that my work is being offered on One King's Lane !!
It is a wonderful home decor shopping site  and some of my paintings will be available to order as prints - with frames - yay! easy peasy.
The sale lasts for only a week so GET EM' WHILE THEY'RE HOT!!
Here is a link to the sale: One King's Lane
I’m excited to share that my work is available on One Kings Lane. It’s an amazingly curated site for home decor items. It feels more clean and less crowded than similiar sites of the same ilk. Anyway, my work will be up for a short while (it’s so easy to sign up for the site, it took me like 2 minutes total fyi). It’s especially cool that they frame the pieces. It’s such a pain in the neck to do it yourself. - See more at: http://www.samanthahahn.com/blog/2012/06/27/one-kings-lane-print-sale/#sthash.lWHiylrb.dpuf

Sakonnet Gardens

nfdp.
This AMAZING garden was open last weekend and WOW I am sooo glad I went. So glad that I went twice.
You can read about the garden and meadow restoration here.  Pictures just don't capture the "feel" of this place.  It is special.

Just Desserts

nfdp
I went to Boston today to drop off some paintings at the Copley Society of Art and driving down Newbury Street, I caught a glimpse of my name up there on that sign.  So awesome to see.
The Just Deserts show at Beth Urdang is up until the 17th of May.   Catch it if you can.
I've sold a bunch but there are still some goodies left.

How to Make Sugared Violets

nfdp
You know all those sweet little wild violets blooming all over your yard?  Well, they are edible and make easy and pretty candied garnishes.  It is simple to sugar them and toss them in salads or top off some cupcakes.
How Sweet, right?  Perfect for Mother's Day Treats or a fairy garden tea.  Here is how you do it:

What you need:
-wild violets (not the house plant kind) In my yard I have the all purple and the purple and white flowers - pick both!
-1-2 egg whites
-sugar
-parchement paper
-paint brush and spoon

Snip off most of the stem.  Brush some egg whites on the petals with a clean artists brush.  You may want to hold the stem with tweezers.  After covering with egg whites, sprinkle with the sugar.  Then place on a baking sheet lined with parchement paper.  I like to put them in a 200 degree over for about 15-20 min. because I don't want to wait but you can set them aside for 24 hrs to harden.  Google some recipes to see which you prefer and for info on how long they can be stored etc.

Portrait Sketch - Prachie

Finally back to my weekly portrait painting.  A regular practice in painting (and other things!) is so important to keeping the skills sharp and to be constantly improving and moving forward.  Although I don't paint portraits as a business it is so valuable to my painting in general.  Hones my skills and feeds my soul.

Above is my painting and below is a close up.  Painting lips is my favorite part.

Teach Art Tuesdays - Movement Sculptures

nfdp
A  favorite project I do every year with my kindergarten art students - Movement Sculptures!
It takes several 30 min. classes to complete and is SO worth it.  The students work hard on these and are very proud of the results.  Here is How to do it:
We start off talking about what a sculpture is and how we can show movement with our sculptures.  Then we make a skeleton using pipe cleaners and covering them with tin foil.  A little wad of self drying clay is used as a base.

You can get plaster cloth at most art supply stores or order it online.

I attach the statues to a block of wood.  This year I had them sand the edges and paint the block black.
The final session is all about dressing them.  The kids LOVE this part.  I put out yarn, scraps of ribbon, pom poms, buttons, do-dads, yarn and glue and scissors.  The creativity flows!
